Market Sees Naught

A storm destroys the British
merchant ship Severn, carrying
goods from Bristol, England
to Philadelphia

From the Pennsylvania Gazette, May 11, 1774

This ship Severn, Captain Hathorn, from Bristol for this port [Philadelphia] is ashore in our [Delaware] bay, full of water, and throught to be lost. Wednesday last we had a smart snow storm, and the weather uncommonly cold for the season, which, is feared, will prove very dtrimental to the fruit [trees].
